- Why is Nestlé changing the name of the BUTTERFINGER bar?
- Nestlé USA conducted a two-year comprehensive study into consumer perceptions of the "Butterfinger" name. According to the study, an overwhelming majority of consumers identified the phrase with undesirable traits, such as being clumsy, awkward and lacking in physical coordination, skill or grace. As a result, Nestlé management felt that a change in direction was needed.
- When will THE FINGER be on store shelves?
- THE FINGER bar will start appearing on store shelves April 1. We expect THE FINGER brand name to replace all BUTTERFINGER branded product on store shelves by May 1.
- Will the recipe of THE FINGER change?
- No, the recipe will not change, and THE FINGER will feature the same crispety-crunchety, peanut-buttery taste that people love.
- Will the BUTTERFINGER name change across all products, or just the standard bars?
- Standard bars, fun-size bars and miniatures will all be renamed THE FINGER.
- What are the origins of the BUTTERFINGER bar?
- BUTTERFINGER was first introduced in 1928 by the Curtiss Candy Company of Chicago, IL. The brand name BUTTERFINGER was selected through a public contest. "Butterfinger" was a popular expression of the day, used by sportscasters to describe athletes who couldn't keep a grip on the baseball or football. Nestlé acquired the brand in 1990 and renamed the product THE FINGER in 2008.
